I've Got Some Answers For Ya.

I'm sure that you've seen the two new t-shirts that have appeared on HeroMart.com, the Legion and Paladin armor style wrap-around print t-shirts. If not, check them out cause they are kind of amazing. 

and...

I have been seeing these questions a lot, so I thought I would answer them for you.

Why Are They So Expensive?

The only way to get the full wrap around print on the shirt is through a process called sublimation printing. 

We looked around for companies that could do it cheaply and found out that, due to the involved process, it CAN'T be done cheaply. I've seen some Marvel shirts out there that use the same process that are being sold for as low ar $26 USD. That has to do with the way that the companies handle the orders. 

Most companies will lower the price per shirt with the more that you order so a huge company like Marvel (now with Disney money backing it) is able to order these things by the HUNDRED THOUSAND and not think twice about it. They know that they can move all the shirts. 

We don't have Marvel money and HeroMart doesn't sell nearly as many shirts as Marvel does, so we have decided to take pre-orders for the shirts then simply order as many as you order (with a few extras to replace any printing screw ups, because there are always a few).

So if you guys pre-order 100 shirts, HeroMart will order 100 in the sizes that you requested plus a handful of others as back-ups. Maybe ONE extra in each size. Ordering at these low numbers mean that we get NO bulk discount to pass on to you. 

Just keep in mind that when Artix ordered the prototype t-shirts to see how they looked, each prototype cost $55 USD plus shipping so we really are doing everything in our limited power to get you these shirts as cheaply as possible. 

So If I Want A Shirt, Then I Need To Pre-Order It NOW?

Exactly. If you want one of these shirts, you NEED to pre-order it before the HeroMart stops taking orders on November 25th. At this point, there have been so few orders that It looks like we won't ever be ordering a second round. Pre-order or no shirt for you. 

Remember that each shirt comes with a cool weapon on its own but you have to have BOTH SHIRTS to get the Legion Paladin class. 

Is The Class Worth $80?

Nope. Don't get me wrong, I'm told is a very fun class (I haven't tried it out myself yet) but I would call you insane for spending that much on a single class. That's kind of the point. You're NOT spending $80 on a class. You're spending it on two really, REALLY cool shirts (IMO, the coolest shirts that we've ever made) and you're getting the class as a BONUS item to sweeten the deal. 

I've tried to explain this before but it has never seemed to sink in. You're not buying classes (or maybe you are if you REALLY love AQW and you're a semi-wealthy rare collector, but you shouldn't be). You're buying AE merchandise that comes with in-game bonus items because you guys seem to like it when we add them on for you. 

Anything Else I Need To Know?

Yeah, another fun tidbit about the siblumation process is that it's done by hand so each shirt comes out a little different. These little imperfections are actually kind of cool. It means that there are many shirts like it but that one is YOURS! We're not talking like huge holes or anything, just small diffrences that make it personal, which I like. 

According to HeroMart.com they will keep taking orders until November 25th and your shirts should start being shipped out of HeroMart around December 15th, just in time for the holidays.

The time as finally arrived. We need YOU (well, some of you) to help us bug test and balance our new OMNI games, starting with our next game, AQ DRAGONS!

Read the requirements, if you need them then follow the application instructions. You will be contacted by e-mail if you are selected. 

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be 18 years of age.
   
• Must speak (read and write) fluent English.
   
• Must be able to follow directions.
   
• Must have a clean account history in our games (as outlined HERE).
   
• Must be able to devote a reasonable amount of time to testing.
   
• (For Web testing) Must know how to clear your browser's cache.
   
• (For iOS testing) Must have an iPhone 4 or newer, iPod 4th gen or newer, or an iPad.
   
• (For Android) Your device (Phone/Pad) must run Android OS Gingerbread 2.3.1 or higher.  

That's all that you need. If you meet the requirements then feel free to apply. 

How DO I Aply To Be an OMNI Tester? 

1. 1. Send an e-mail to OmniTesters@Artix.com with the subject line OMNI TESTER APPLICATION
   If your e-mails subject line says anything except OMNI TESTER APPLICATION then the filters will automatically delete it. Reading comprehension is good.
    
2. Include your real name and age. 
    
3. Include your country of residence.
    
4. Include which platform you will be testing on: WEB, iOS or ANDROID (note: there are a limited number of web slots
    
5. Include your testing device: Browsers you can use to test, iPhone 4 or newer, iPod 4th gen or newer, or an iPad or Android device running OS Gingerbread 2.3.1 or higher (If you are applying to test on MORE THAN ONE platform, please include on which you are able to test in your single application).
    
6. Include your AQW Game account name (If you have one) and email address. 
    
7. Include your Master Account name and email address tied to the master account.
    
8. Include your Forum account name and email address if you have a forum account.
    
9. Include all Languages you speak/read.
    
10. Include a Resume (C.V.)  *please note we'd like the resume in English.

AGAIN, You must be at least 18 years old to be considered for these positions.

Position Details

Please note that this is an unpaid, volunteer position, but does provide the chance to test game content as we develop it before release and invaluable experience with a honest-to-goodness gaming company which will look good on ANY future resumes. Other perks MAY include things like being credited as a tester in the game or on our sites, your character being used in the game content in some fashion or other possible perks. 

In my opinion, It takes three things to be a game developer. Almost everyone I talk to about this has two of them.

This weekend I was on TeamSpeak with a gaming friend of mine. We've been gaming together for a while now but this weekend was the first time that we talked about what we did for a living. When I told him that I make games for a living he said "That's completely unfair. That's my dream job".

It turns out that he is (like a lot of people that I know, and a lot of you guys) a lifelong gamer with a REAL PASSION for video games. He has SO MANY ideas for games that he's wanted to make and has even written out several complete worlds with their own races, rich histories and even languages. Stunningly deep, amazingly detailed stories that could riavl The Elder Scrolls mythology. It all sounded GREAT!

Then I asked him what was holding him back and he dropped the I BOMB (like the F Bomb but much worse to my ears). He said "I'm more of an IDEA GUY,". He can't draw, or animate and doesn't understand even the basics of programming or marketing. 

Here's the dirty little secret about Idea Guys. Every single game developer out there is an Idea Guy. They have all played video games for most or all of their lives and they all have their worlds in their heads just waiting to pop out onto the screen for others to enjoy. 

I've mentioned in a past post that I feel that I need to lie to people about what I do when I go to parties because someone there is an Idea Guy who just can't wait to talk to me allllllllllllll night about his game idea and how we can start making it happen. (I just came for the chips and Cards Against Humanity, dude). 

Most gamers have a PASSION for gaming. That is the heart. 

Most gamers have great IDEAS for games. That is the brain. 

Where most people get stuck is the ability and will to MAKE games. That is the hand. 

There are SO many people out there who really think that all they need is to find an artist and a programmer and they can just be the Idea Guy (so everyone else does the work, on TOP of having ideas of our own? Cool, where do I sign?).

Every person who works with me in the Secret Underground Lab is an Idea Guy (guy being used as a gender neutral term here), but on top of that they ALL have some amount of skill that allows them to participate in the creation of our games. These aren't skills they they were born with (a little talent helps but is not necessary to learn any skill). That is where most people hit a challenge or get bored and give up. 

The difference between my friend and a game developer is that the game developer took the extra steps to learn how to make games. Now they can take all that uncontainable creativity and build a framework for it so it could be appreciated and experienced by others in the form of a video game. 

I'm sure it's the same in any creative field. The novelist didn't just come up with an idea for a novel, but learned how to write well and put serious effort into sending it to TONS of publishers. The rock star didn't just stop at writing bad poetry and learning a few chords, they practiced their craft, mastered their instrument and worked their butt off to get gigs. The big time Hollywood writer/director didn't just come up with an idea, they got into the industry and worked very, very hard to get the chance to MAKE their own movies. 

This is what I meant when I wrote NOBODY WANTS TO MAKE YOUR GAME. They all put time and effort in so that they could make their own stuff, not make your dreams come true. 

If you want to be a game developer or ANY kind of creative professional, You will need all three: Heart, Brains and Hands. So, if this is your dream... what's your excuse? Start TODAY. Put in the time and effort, look for resources online, don't give up when it gets tough and MAKE IT HAPPEN!

It is our 12th Anniversary-- and we hope you enjoy this year’s cross-game event, “Phantom of the Pixel!” The idea of cursed items crafted from dead pixels is…. spine-tinglingly awesome! With the coming of the new mobile games, it might be too hard to have another full cross-over games event like this… so do this one while you still can!

Thank you to everyone who believes in us and supports us by upgrading or buying things in the video games—because of you we can afford to keep the lights on and the server hampsters running at full speed. It has officially been 12 YEARS of weekly, non-stop updates! THANK YOU!  

Our video game’s “weekly new releases” — where we add new quests, maps, monsters, weapons & content to the game — is something that is really special about our community. AdventureQuest classic was one of (if not the) first to do it. We have been compared to long running shows like The Simpsons, Southpark, and Saturday Night Live with our game’s history of weekly releases. But there is one big difference… TV shows run in seasons and the cast and crew… take breaks. We do not. We never have. As a whole, the AE team has delivered a new video game update/release every single week for 12 years. Our games never take holidays off — the team and I actually work harder and have larger releases during them!  

Because of that, I would very much like to recognize and thank the AE team — all of the artists, animators, writers, coders, the moderators, the forum staff, and all of the volunteers for their hard work. I am extremely proud of these passionate super heroes. Thank you all, too — players, team, and all the people who love us and put up with our crazy video game habits — for making Frogzards, Moglins and DoomKnights a part of our everyday life!
