Fight for the Fight Stance!

BattleStance.jpg

"There can be only one!"

Our new mobile game, known as "Project: Omni" is making rapid progress. However, the team is deadlocked in an emotionally charged, highly heated debate over the players "Battle Stance." So, as we often do... we are coming to you for help. Which of the two stances above is battle for your battle stance? Some people like being able to see the armor better, but it does hide the weapon and look less fierce. Some people like the weapon being out front, but it covers the armor -and possibly some of the monster. Good comments on Twitter and Facebook include "Most games are like B, so A is more original" and "A looks good, but it better for an idle stance." It is sorta like choosing between two amazing flavors of ice cream!

Comment Question: What do you think? A or B?

Sorry Comments are now closed for this post.

Ark_Zong
Ark_Zong: In battle I would say B. But outside of battle when your walking around make it A. Suggestion: considering B covers some of the monter, as long as we can see it before the battle/cutcene then yea my idea seems cool (not everyone will agree though)

The Extraordinary Mr. E
The Extraordinary Mr. E: Why not both? Make it a player option whether to wield your weapon right-handed and your off-hand/shield left-handed or wield your off-hand/shield right-handed and your weapon left-handed.

Phoenix518
Phoenix518: I like A better personally, but why not use both? A makes a lot of sense for bigger weapons, but B would be great for like a dagger or a wand or something similar. Or maybe give an option to let people choose which stance they want? I mean, I'm sure both of these would be harder to code, but it's certainly something to think about.

Kraft: Stance A looks like the Hero has a surprise ready that will activate when the monster attacks, like a magic mirror, so he is feeling confident and doesn't need to prepare. Stance B is a better combat-ready stance in my eyes.

Menirz
Menirz: I have to agree with the idea that A is best suited for an idle stance - a combat stance needs to be aggressive and look like the character is prepared to strike at any moment, not lounging around at this beast before him like its a little puppy... That being said, B is my choice for combat stance. Granted I'm sure there is a way to do a backhand hold that looks more aggressive, but the current one (A) is much better suited to an idle.

Vypie
Vypie: If we are talking about BIG swords, I choose A. Resting the weight of the sword on our shoulders is a useful stance, as you are then able to drop an attack on your enemy more quickly than if the sword is held like B. B stance takes longer to attack, as it needs first to gain momentum for cutting power, unless you are going to stab and pierce the enemy.

Vypie
Vypie: The A stance also looks cooler, and doesn't hide the armour. When attacking you will see more of the weapon anyways.

Vypie
Vypie: For smaller swords, or daggers, go with the option B. In that case it would be the only holding option. But by being smaller they would not cause problems with the armor visibility. For two-handed sword types, I choose A, but for other weapons it depends.

chrysus: i would have to say, practically B is the best choice. but style wise A shows the character off better. But either way i would say B as it would be the most efficient way of fighting... here is an idea! why not let the char chose by making different personality traits... e.g Hero could be B and vain (or possibly confident) for option A

Pyromanticore
Pyromanticore: Option A looks a bit original rather than B. But why don't you just put them both together. Ex. If you are ready to attack, stance B is activated. And then if you don't attack for maybe 30 seconds or 1 minute, the stance goes to A. I'd just like to say the AE Entertainment is doing great with all of their games. Good luck and God bless XD

Kazuma: I believe that the "B" stance makes the character look more prepared for a battle, so it should be used as the combat stance. I do think that the "A" stance could also have its uses, but not in a battle. Perhaps the "A" stance could be used for character page pictures or it could also be used for characters that have not moved for a while (AFK).

Colossus
Colossus: I prefer A. However, another stance that could be used before battle would be a slightly-wider-than-shoulder-width stance, with the body faced slightly to the side and the melee weapon (would be impractical for other weapons) held perpendicular to the ground at chest level, towards the back of the chest, thus positioning the blade/head behind the head. Not sure if you understand. :P

SapphireFox
SapphireFox: The most important thing here is weapon choice. Yes A does make you look as if you were about to run into battle but it covers the armor if your using a long sword or more importantly an axe. As B does make you seem to be resting it provides clear view of the armor which im sure will be detailed down to the last bit but the same thing can be said with the sword in that it will not be seen especially if you have a dagger in your hand. Or maybe daggers are a whole new subject, will there be one in each hand or only one in the chosen hand. Personally i like the choice of B because i love the way the armor is so unique and creative in this game and how little pieces in the armor core connect to the robe or floating objects around it.

ExodusRaven
ExodusRaven: In my opinion, it would depend on the pace of the game. If the game is slow, turn based, etc, A is the better choice. It's suited to a slower game. However, if the game is faster-paced and much more action-y, B would be the better choice. If you're in the middle of a fast battle, you don't have time to rest your weapon on your shoulder, you want to be ready!

Cd6373: I would go with A since we've been running around with B for awhile now. Change it up a little. Give the hero some sense of pride. Why not? He's worked hard for it. And plus I would like to see some slamming instead of the usual quick jab here and there. I wanna see some power hits. I mean if the agile stabs still come along, at least it derived from a confident source. A is my final answer. By the way, if one wanted to perhaps write some script for AE games, would a few published novels be sufficient experience. No implications; hypothetical.

Axelicum
Axelicum: Some feels good seeing their cool weapons, and some wanted showing off their armor, like me. Both shares the same sensation. A shows the armor while B shows the weapon.
