Are Giant Robots making a comeback?

Most of us here at the lab are excited about the movie, Pacific Rim, which is coming out this summer. Giant robots fighting giant monsters!!!! It is the next best thing to someone creating a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. *dreams*  I grew up watching TV shows like Robotech, Voltron, Transformers and Tranzor Z (originally known as Mazinger Z.) Needless to say, MechQuest was highly inspired by my love of those shows. Not to mention all of the anime series that I got into: Gundam, Eva, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Full Metal Panic, Eureka Seven, Big O, Escaflowne (OMG I LOVED ESCAFLOWNE.... Giant Robots with Swords and Capes!) and a lot of obscure ones like Nadesco, Rahxephon, Fafner and for some reason my most favorite spoof series, "Dual! Parallel." I really do hope giant robots are making a comeback... if so, the end of MechQuest's main storyline is coming at a perfect time. An upsurge in robofatuation would let us build MechQuest 2 as an Omni game! *dreams more*

Comment Question: What are your favorite robot shows & movies?

Dracomon
Dracomon: I LOVE Mecha anime, Gundam is also one of my favorite all time series, I remember Gundam Wing very vividly. One other I found that was also good, even though it wasn't too mecha centered, was Vanguard, It was great. I never really got into Lagann but I intend to fully enjoy suisei no gargantia and Valvrave The Liberator, which I hear are the best up and coming mecha anime out right now.

Artix
Artix: SEQUEL!? Tell me more.
Kazuma
Kazuma: Rebuild of Evangelion is NOT a sequel! It's a collection of 4 movies that give a totally different storyline. It is the furthest thing from sequel you could ever find!
Dragonmaster Flynn
Dragonmaster Flynn: Rebuild of Evangelion is a reboot of sorts of the original series. The creator started over, making the graphics, story, and, well, everything much much better. Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22 are already out, and 3.33 is coming out this year.
Clergy
Clergy: You haven't LIVED if you haven't seen the Rebuild movies.
Infernatil
Infernatil: http://twitpic.com/bdg8y9/full checkout this, Rebuild its not remake. Eva is about cicles, like the title of the 4.0 movie, Shin Evangelion Gekijouban : | |. this means end of the repetition in music.
Kazuma
Kazuma: Right now, I'm waiting for Evangelion 3.33 "Quickening" (called "You Can (Not)Redo" in America) to be subbed.

NovaDraconis
NovaDraconis: Though not a mecha anime per se, Power Rangers had an enormously positive influence on me during my tumultuous childhood. I loved collecting the Deluxe Megazord toys, assembling and disassembling them repeatedly until the connector knobs broke or the accessories went missing.

Slidey6
Slidey6: I, unlike most people, realize if your robot was about one-hundred times bigger than usual, wouldn't it be easy to stick a bomb on it without someone noticing it (because nobody wants to have to look at every tiny detail on a titan robot. They have lives to deal with first.) Or drill a hole that's big enough to be climb through to take it out from the inside, but too small compared to the whole robot to be noticed. So no, I prefer nano-tech, mainly because it's microscopic, and turn into practically anything. Like magic for robotics nerds. So my motto is "Bigger weapon, armor, and size, means bigger disadvantages too.

Allsaint: Gun X sword, its a very cool anime with a tuxedo-wearing cowboy that uses a sword that can summon a giant robot, called armors, from SPACE! Then there is Break Blade (Broken Blade) which is probably one of the best Mecha anime I have ever seen! I definitely recommend watching it.

FUSE WITH GALAXIES!!! (not made up. xD) Favorite Robot shows? Zoids has a special place in my heart (original Zoids. the one with Van Flyheight). Dragonmand
Dragonmand: i've always been a fan of the Transformers series. but if i should pick just one, i'll say it's somewhat a tie between G1 and Animated. G1 because even though it has lower animation and graphics than the other series it was one of the greatest sjows ever!!! (until they remade it into headmasters.) and Animated because it was a fun series and had a great story. + both had my favorite voice for Shockwave. :)

Ferozakh
Ferozakh : Mazinger Z was actually a collaborated work from Tokusatsu and Ishimori Productions. It was actually a homage from the Mechanical Violator Hakaider in the 70s, prior to the real-action series of the 70s kids show, Jinzōu Ningen Kikaider. And after the launch of the Space Ironmen Kyōdain, also known to many Japanese as Ūchu Tetsūjin Kyōdain, gave Ishimori the idea to create Mazinger Z.

Ferozakh
Ferozakh : Without Mazinger Z, the idea of releasing the Metal Hero Series, Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai would never come true. Mazinger Z was also remade and was currently a part of the XV II in the Kamen Rider X Super Sentai Superhero Wars. Ishimori is already dead, but his legacy will live on with the current Toku series and so on.

Allsaint: OH MY GOD, read through comments and only one person mentioned of the more important Giant Robot Fighting Shows ever. Power Rangers, the ultimate of ultimate, a totally boys show with martial arts, hostile alien invaders (most of the time), and vehicles that can combine to make, A MEGAZORD!!! the smashing of steel, the new powers they discover about themselves, and a long standing history of saving the world. There is no doubt that almost everyone has had an encounter with Power Rangers, and kids all over the world will continue to encounter them, "teenagers" in elastic tights fighting to save everyone!

ninjaboy42: My all-time Favorite show with giant robots would be robotech for sure! I've always wished there were some robotech-like mecha in Mechquest. Reminds me of how they're planning on making a robotech live-action movie. And how there's now a robotech miniatures game on kickstarter, being created by Palladium books, the people that made all those robotech tabletop RPGs.

Lightningninjastorm: Code Geass was my favourite, *SPOILER*
Lightningninjastorm
Lightningninjastorm: Code Geass was my favourite, mainly because of: *SPOILER DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED WATCHING CODE GEASS THROUGH SEASON 2!!!!!!* I was pretty-much inspired by how Lelouch went about to create peace, COMPLETLY throwing away his reputation to the point his own FRIENDS and FAMILY thought him a monster with the rest of the world and kept moving on until at the end when he had Suzaku, after coming to an understanding and faking his death, dress up as Zero(whom Lelouch masqueraded as before becoming Emporer) and assassinate Emporer Lelouch "The Demon" and since EVERYTHING was pinned on him, the world went to piece and prosperity! HURRAH! But even in the end, noone but a clever few to figure it out new what REALLY happened... PS. I am apart of those who believe he is still alive, they started Season 3 but it is in-between the time of 1st and 2nd Seasons and each episode is a movie length but we wish it would be weekly release of even 10 minutes instead of STILL no episode after nearly a YEAR and there were recently RUMORS that it would start in the Summer...

Lightningninjastorm: Anyone here watch Bandit King Jing, Soul Eater, or Hellsing Ultimate?

Rumble2
Rumble2: My first robot/mecha was Gundam Wing, second was Evangelion and the third was Gurren Lagann the later time. I got interested in a episode of a Yuusha saga. Then I found the channel that had the transformations of those during the time. I was able to watch GaoGaiGar and Might Gaine fully subbed, as the music is what drew me in them as well of the action. The first episode of GaoGaiGar make me just grinned. In where the Zarian(eh...)first duo elemental machine monster regenerated his face and got punched again in the face. Also later when I heard the Disc X music... That eerie yet apprising evil song drew me in. While the Great Might Gaine theme song also made me enjoy it as well.
